Target Distributing Charizard in October for Pokemon Sun, Moon

Pokemon trainers seeking out Charizard in Pokemon Sun and Moon have a new opportunity next month when Target stores across the country will give out codes for the fire-type Pokemon.

The Pokemon Twitter account made the announcement earlier today, stating the distribution begins Oct. 1 and ends on the 14th. While the event period is two weeks, codes are available on a first come first served basis and must be redeemed before Feb. 4, 2018.

This Charizard, which is Target’s way of promoting their exclusive Pokemon TCG: Charizard-GX Premium Collection, is level 50 and has the standard Blaze ability. Moveset-wise, the Flame Pokemon knows Dragon Dance, Flare Blitz, Fly and Earthquake. The Pokemon comes with a Red Card, which was introduced in Pokemon Black and White. Any Pokemon attacking another monster holding a Red Card is forced to switch out for a random party member.

Despite being one of the most popular starter Pokemon, some social media users are disappointed with the Charizard. Some complaints include Charizard’s lack of special moves, North America’s distributions paling in comparison to Japan’s, and Charizard being pretty generic Pokemon most people have by now.

In Japan, trainers can get a shiny Silvally and shiny Mimikyu, at levels 100 and 10 respectively starting Sept. 22. No such event for either Pokemon is available in either North America or Europe. Instead, these regions recently had events for Salazzle and shiny Tapu Koko, although Japan had a shiny Tapu Koko distribution earlier in the year.

However, a series of upcoming events focus on more exclusive Pokemon. The mythical Marshadow, a legendary fighting/ghost type, and a variety of Pikachu wearing Ash’s hats from the anime will lead up to the Charizard giveaway. There is a catch with the Pikachu event though, as codes can only be entered once and the week the code is entered results in a different hat-wearing pocket monster.

Each of these Pokemon, and all others trainers have captured during their first Alola journey, can be transferred to Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon on Nov. 17.
