Super Mario RPG Remake Announced During Nintendo Direct

Nintendo Direct premiered today and with it came exciting news, including the announcement of Super Mario RPG, a remake of the SNES classic. The trailer showed off what the reimagined game will look like, with some of the original cutscenes and gameplay overhauled into a modern art style. The top-down view remains, alongside many of the original characters like Geno and Mallow, including the many enemies like Birdo, Booster, and Yaridovich among others. With a fresh modern look, the top-down view keeps the classic levels and layout that longtime fans will remembered from the SNES classic.

The original Super Mario RPG: The Legend of the Seven Stars released in 1996 for the SNES from then developer Sqauresoft and Nintendo for a unique collab. Super Mario RPG has dropped the “Legend of the Seven Stars” portion and titled it simply, Super Mario RPG.

Super Mario RPG will be available on Nintendo Switch with pre-orders starting today. It’s set for release November 17th, 2023.
