SUP3R5 Cancels Orders For PS2 Themed PlayStation 5 Consoles

Retailer SUP3R5 was going to be selling PS2 themed PlayStation 5 consoles that were announced earlier this month, but now that will no longer be the case. This doesn’t have any affiliation with Sony and the controller would not have been under warranty due to the retro-inspired conversion process. The console would also be adjusted to fit the PlayStation 2 theme but there was no official word that the warranty for the console would’ve been voided. There was limited amount of units created with 500 units of the special DualSense controller which cost $99 and only 304 units for the console which was priced at $649. All orders have been canceled and refunded. The retailer announced that the reason they are no longer going to be sending them out was that they had received credible threats over the console.

In a now-deleted tweet from their now-deleted Twitter account, SUP3R5 said “Last night, our team began receiving credible threats to their safety. We take these threats seriously, and as a result, we’re not proceeding forward. All orders are being canceled with full refunds.”

There had been some issues with SUP3R5 having trouble processing orders and payments with some of the buyers expressing their frustration. The retailer’s social media channels were flooded with questions to the company about their orders and refunds with some saying that they were able to get their refund.

The next-gen consoles have been in high demand since they were revealed with many still trying to get their hands on either a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X|S. Both companies are looking to send more units out for consumers asking AMD for additional help. Sony said that they plan to reach 16.8 million to 18 million units in 2021. Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, talked about their situation with Xbox Series X|S saying “it just comes down to physics and engineering. We’re not holding them back, we are building them as fast as we can. We have all of the assembly lines going.”
