Rocksteady’s next game is getting another delay according to sources familiar with Warner Bros. Discovery. The upcoming co-op third-person shooter Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League will allegedly be delayed to the fourth quarter of 2023. Originally, the game was set for 2022 release window before its first delay to May 26, 2023. While there hasn’t been official confirmation, a recent article by Bloomberg backs up the source’s claims.
It is alleged that this recent delay is due to the backlash that followed the gameplay showcase in the recent PlayStation State of Play. Rocksteady showcased gameplay for the first time where we saw Harley Quinn, Deadshot, King Shark, and Captain Boomerang take on a variety of Brianiac enemies as the team tries to rescue Lex Luthor from a mind-controlled Flash. The Suicide Squad can be seen zipping throughout the battlefield firing a variety of weapons and launching attacks specific to them such as Boomerang’s bubble that slows everyone down while he takes them down with his iconic weapon utilizing a machine that allows him to use the speed force. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League had been criticized heavily since its initial announcement, however, its recent critiques go beyond surface-level concerns like graphics. Many players have problems with the inclusion of battle passes as well as the required live-service components of the game and the critical acclaim Rocksteady’s previous DC game franchise had gained within the video game community.
Bloomberg noted the delay may revolve around surface-level fix bugs, and considering that the game has been allegedly pushed to later this year, this delay wouldn’t be enough time to fix any of the major critiques people had about its core gameplay.
