Street Fighter V Capcom Pro Tour DLC Announced at EVO 2016

Capcom announced during their EVO 2016 panel the release of Capcom Pro Tour content for Street Fighter V. The content is currently available for purchase and includes items such as a stage and costumes among other things. The new content will remain up until just before the Capcom Cup takes place, which will be sometime near the end of November.

For the costumes, the two that are currently announced are costumes for Cammy and Chun Li. There is another “mystery” costume that will be revealed sometime later this year. According to the Capcom press release, “This costume is very special and we think fans will be really excited about what this means for Capcom Cup 2016 once we officially unveil it.”  These costumes currently retail at $5.99 each. There is also a Capcom Pro Tour themed stage entitled the “Ring of Destiny.” This stage retails at $9.99.

These items can also be purchased in a bundle. The Capcom Pro Tour “Premier Package” retails at $24.99.  The “Premier Package” includes all 3 new costumes: Chun Li, Cammy, and the mystery costume, the “Ring of Destiny” stage, Capcom Pro Tour color options for all 22 of Street Fighter V’s characters, the 16 launch characters and 6 DLC characters, and 2 exclusive titles “Capcom Cup 2016” and “Capcom Pro Tour 2016.”

A trailer for all of this new DLC was also released. So far the fan response from these EVO 2016 announcements has not been too positive. The trailer currently holds a larger dislike to like ratio. Combing through the comments there seems to be 2 major complaints. Many are accusing the bundle of being overpriced, based on the cost versus what the consumer is actually receiving. Another common complaint seems to be disappointment that the company is releasing these cosmetic DLC upgrades rather than focusing on releasing things like an arcade version of the game and other often requested improvements to the game. In an era of gaming where games are often released early as unfinished products, microtransaction is a dirty word, and gamers have grown increasingly cynical. Every DLC option is now usually dismissed as a cash grab, so it seems like an odd move to announce this $24.99 cosmetic promotional package at what is the biggest fighting game event of the year. The trailer for the Capcom Pro Tour DLC can be seen below.
