On April 4th this year, Jasco Games announced a Kickstarter for their Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game board game. The next day they were not only fully funded, but also surpassed the desired amount by $344,816, and still going. Needless to say this upcoming board game is backed by a stupendous amount of support.
Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game brings the characters and their battle field into real life. By using the pre-painted miniature Street Fighter characters, players are able to experience the “brand new Universal Tactics System”. The system caps at 6 players. Each will be able to role-play as characters while utilizing their abilities through dice-rolling and playing cards. Few of the other features included within the board game are:
- Versus Mode as well as Free For All and Team Mode for up to 6-players!
- Stage Maps with 3D Destructible Terrain inspired straight from the video games!
- Individual 40-card character Battle Decks split into Projectiles, Specials, Strikes, and Event Cards.
Besides the game as a whole, the creators of the board game took a lot of care in designing the miniature characters as they state, “We wanted to make our miniatures so good that even if you didn’t play the game at all, your pledge would still be fully worth it for these impressive works of art alone”. Since this is the first Street Fighter board game it makes sense that its contents would make for collectibles, rather than strictly for playing purposes. Of course, Jasco Games has included the iconic Street Fighter characters such as Ryu, Ken, Chun-Li, and many more.
Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game is not only a way for fans to experience Street Fighter without a controller, but is also a brilliant idea to preserve the iconic game for nostalgic reasons. It’s wonderful to see that Jasco Games takes this daring venture so seriously, earning much respect and excitement among their followers and fans of Street Fighter. The community eagerly witnesses the impressive progression of the board game, while also offering their unwavering encouragement: “You are gonna blow it out of the park, mang! This is gonna be one of the most successful boardgame Kickstarter projects, I’m sure of it!”
As of now, there is no specific date of when the game will officially release. However, on the Street Fighter: The Miniatures Game Kickstarter hosted site, it is mentioned that the estimated delivery of the game would be within March of 2019. But that delivery date only applies for those who contribute to the Basic Pledge, Street Fighter Pledge, or World Warrior Pledge.
