Street Fighter 6 is not exactly a friendly game when you’re on defense. In fact, many players call the latest installment in Capcom’s flagship fighting game franchise way too offensive, and that the scenarios you’re put in in-game when forced to play defense are practically too numerous for the average player to account for, since not only do they have to know their options to get out of sticky situations, they have to know their opponent’s options that are being thrown at them so they best know how to protect themselves and possibly punish. Well, Capcom has gone the extra mile and helped struggling players with the latter part with a fantastic new Replay Review function:
An idea straight from Bandai Namco’s Tekken 8 ghost replay feature; basically, you take control of one of the two players in a replay and insert yourself into that scenario. From there you can practice how to best defend against whatever they’re doing, or how to best press the advantage when you have it.
As stated, Street Fighter 6 is a very offensive game, particularly in the corner. So having the ability to jump right in to a scenario you lost in and find the gaps in your opponent’s pressure or the best way to answer whatever messed up 50/50 they’re throwing at you is a Godsend. Of course, there are only so many ways the game can show you that you only have two options between take the throw or die, but perhaps this new feature will help alleviate some of the pressure put on players to learn what every character on the roster does just to formulate a basic defense.
This feature should be going live the same time SNK guest character Terry Bogard does, on September 24th of this year, and the feature can’t come too soon, expect to be using it to lab out defensive options against Terry’s Drive Cancels!
