Today, the developers at Street Fighter have announced that the latest iteration in the series, Street Fighter 6 has reached over 1 million players. This is an impressive feat considering that this is within the game’s first three days since getting released. The devs have also revealed that the series in its entirety has now passed over 50 million copies sold.

For context to how well Street Fighter 6 is doing compared to previous entries, Street Fighter V sold 1.4 million copies in three months. Street Fighter IV sold over 3 million copies in six weeks. Capcom’s President said that the company wants to sell 10 million copies of Street Fighter 6 over its lifetime.
Capcom’s President Haruhiro Tsujimoto talked about how widening the game’s scope and making the series more appealing to less “hardcore” fighting game fans was the way they could make it be the best-selling game in the series.
“Over the past few years, multiple titles in the Resident Evil series have sold 10 million copies, and the Monster Hunter series now has titles that are aiming for 20 million copies,” Tsujimoto explained to Famitsu. Street Fighter V has already sold over 7 million copies, so if we can make use of our digital sales experience, we should be able to aim for 10 million copies with the next game.
“That’s why we’re trying to do everything we couldn’t do before with Street Fighter 6 – that’s why we’re where we are today.”
In celebration of reaching over 1 million players, the devs have announced that a free gift has been added. Players have reported that it is a profile title.
