State Of Play January 2024: Death Stranding 2: On The Beach Coming 2025; Kojima Reveals New Action Espionage Game In Development

Leading up to today’s State of Play, there were leaks and rumors of the full title for Death Stranding 2. During the State of Play, those leaks and rumors were confirmed as Kojima Productions released lengthy new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach. 

The new trailer featured more information regarding the story for the game which sees the return of Sam Bridges, played by Norman Reedus, who is working for a civilian outfit called Drawbridge. Bridges will once again be setting out to unite the world. In addition to the return of Fragile, played by Léa Seydoux and Troy Baker returning as Higgs, this new trailer featured a look at two new characters, one which looks to be played by Mad Max director George Miller, and another who will be played by Head-On director Fatih Akin.

The official description for the game reads:

Embark on an inspiring mission of human connection beyond the UCA. Sam—with companions by his side—sets out on a new journey to save humanity from extinction. Join them as they traverse a world beset by otherworldly enemies, obstacles and a haunting question: should we have connected? Step by step, legendary game creator Hideo Kojima changes the world once again.

Death Stranding 2: On The Beach is set to release in 2025.

In addition to the new trailer for Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, Hideo Kojima made a short appearance during the State of Play and announced a new partnership with PlayStation on a brand-new action espionage title.

Kojima said that the new game codenamed PHYSINT  will be the third, new original IP since the creation of Kojima Productions. Kojima says that “it will be created using cutting-edge technology and the best talents from around the world, both from film and video games. Of course this is an interactive “game”, but the look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, sound, etc… are all at the next level of “Digital Entertainment” that could be called a “movie.”
