Brought to players by Developer Digital and System Era Softworks, Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions has been released for early access download on 6/11/2026. This is the second standalone game for the Astroneer series, and the first complete game to be developed by System Era Softworks since the release of the original Astroneer game in 2016, although they have released several upgrade packs and DLCs. The publisher, Developer Digital, is also known for 2010s hits such as BALL x PIT (2015) and Enter the Gungeon (2016).
Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions is a co-op exploration game where players must “work together with the crew of the space station to complete objectives that will take them further into the unknown Regions of each planet.” Once these objectives are completed, the entire space station (ESS Starseeker) moves on to the next planet to explore. These challenges include puzzles surrounding alien creatures, potentially deadly plants, and other unnamed “mysterious forces.”
While most of the planets aren’t revealed outside of gameplay, System Era Softworks does offer a description for the starting planet, Planet Tephra. This planet by itself offers hours of gameplay worth of exploration, featuring wetlands, jungles, and oceans. Not only that, Planet Tephra is also home to the “wreckage of an ill-fated EXO Dynamics Voyage” that is free reign for players to explore.
In order to move to new planets and missions, players must first upgrade their ships and gear. As they clear objectives, new blueprints are unlocked for different ship parts, which can then be put together in a completely customizable layout. As for gear upgrades, these must be unlocked with spoils, which are leftover from completed missions.
While this is an online co-op, Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions still supports a single player mode. The development and publications teams expect early access to last for about a year, allowing them time to receive player input and continue to work on Starseeker: Astroneer Expeditions until it surpasses fan expectations. It is currently available on Steam and PlayStation 5, and the early access release trailer can be viewed below from the official System Era Softworks YouTube channel.
