Star Citizen Completes Its First Solar System with a New Planet in New Patch

Star Citizen is an upcoming space MMO, or as advertised by Cloud Imperium Games “Star Citizen is the First Person Universe that will allow for unlimited gameplay.” Star Citizen is directed by Christ Roberts, the creator of Wing Commander and Freelancer, and the project is completely crowd funded. The game was a hit on Kickstarter, completing its goal with 26 days to spare back in 2012. Cloud Imperium Games is still currently taking in donations from gamers and a few investors as well and has been continuously developing the game to achieve their vision for Star Citizen.

Star Citizen still is not fully released, but has recently released its newest patch “Alpha 3.8.0″. While the new patch is not as stable as the previous “Alpha 3.7.2” it did add major features. Most interestingly, the patch brought Microtech (Stanton IV), an ice planet into the game. Microtech will be the final planet in the games first solar system Stanton. Players can explore the exterior surfaces, and the exterior landing zone of the settlement New Babbage. As of now, the interiors are not accessible and the planet is not populated.

“Alpha 3.8.0” also added several features such as orbital stations above major planet landing zones, dust and sand storms have been added to appropriate planets. Wind patterns now affect the flight of ships. Another added game mechanic is an impounding system, where players that commit crimes can have their ships despawned and impounded at a settlement. Players will either need to pay a fee or wait out a timer to receive their ship back. Melee combat has also been added with both knives and fists. Players have the option to perform lethal and non-lethal takedowns whilst in combat. There are several run of the mill additions including a new mining ship, a handful of missions, weapons, quality of life and bug fixes.

Star Citizen is available on Windows and Linux.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
