Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions Gets Western Release Date

Dangen Entertainment has announced that Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions, a strategy RPG, will be releasing in the West for the first time since its release in Japan back in 2016. The indie title was made by the Vestaria Project team, which includes Fire Emblem creator Shouzou Kaga. It will launch in English on Steam later this week, on December 27.

According to a press release, Vestaria Saga follows a young warrior on his quest to protect his small coastal kingdom after war breaks out between it and a powerful empire. Though this may appear to be a simple story of international conflict, Dangen Entertainment warns that “not everything is as it seems, and forces in the dark corners of the continent conspire. The stage is set, and the pieces have begun to move.”

As previously mentioned, Vestaria Saga is a “2D classically-styled strategy RPG… where positioning, movement, and even weaponry, are paramount to success.” Gameplay includes moving characters around a grid-based map to engage and fight various enemies you encounter, which includes pirates, rebels, monsters, imperial soldiers, and more.

The game will have different story paths and endings based on the players’ choices and which of the 20 unique characters that you can recruit survive to the end. Other prominent features include strategic puzzles, two difficulty modes for fans of the genre and those new to it, and the ability to save the game every five turns so mistakes made in battle can be quickly undone.

As the name implies, Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions is only the first installment in the Vestaria Saga series. It’s unclear if other games from the series—of which there are only two out currently—will also receive Western releases any time soon.

Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions will be available in English on Steam on December 27, 2019 for $19.99.
