Square Enix Reveals Project Xehanort, a New Kingdom Hearts Mobile Game

Square Enix made a surprise announcement with a new Twitter account dedicated t0 their up and coming Kingdom Hearts mobile title Project XehanortProject Xehanort is only a working title and will not be the official title on release. There is competition on Project Xehanort’s home page on what the real title will be. Participants can attempt to guess the real title until the competition closes on January 28th. The closest ten guesses will be declared winners and receive some kind of prize, mostly likely something in game.

Details are scarce on Project Xehanort but the slogan “Why did he become the seeker of darkness?”suggests the game will explore the backstory of Xehanort, the main antagonist of Kingdom Hearts, as he turns into the seeker of darkness, providing some extra details that were not explored in the main trilogy. There is currently not any more official information that explains the premise of Project Xehanort in depth. Other than the singular tweet and a minimal home page describing the name challenge, Square Enix has been quiet about Project Xehanort. Details will mostly likely be made available closer to the release window and after the official name is revealed for Project Xehanort.

Project Xehanort is not the first mobile title for the Kingdom Hearts property. Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross] is a mobile release of Kingdom Hearts χ. Both games takes place before the main trilogy and players experience the story of one of the earliest keyblade wielders. Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross] is also free to play with in-app purchases. Project Xehanort is currently advertised with having in-app purchases, so it appears Project Xehanort will follow the same approach as Kingdom Hearts Union χ[Cross].

Project Xehanort has an expected release window of spring 2020 and will be coming to iOS, Android and Amazon.

Griffin Gilman: Gaming may very well be half of my personality, so it is only natural that I write about them. The best genre is RPGs, while the best game is Nier Automata. That's not an opinion but a matter of facts.
