Good news has come to fans of Square Enix’s massive catalog of titles. The Japanese gaming giant is “considering” remastering and remaking some of its older titles.
The comments came from the 43rd Annual Shareholder’s Meeting Q&A, wherein one shareholder prompted the question, “Are there plans to remaster other past titles? Personally, I would like to play Xenogears.”
A member from the Square Enix board responded, “We will refrain from sharing information about new titles, but we are considering various ideas within the company and hope you look forward to forthcoming announcements.”
Fans have been looking forward to many of Square Enix’s older catalog of titles, in hopes of remastering them for modern consoles. This comes after Final Fantasy 7 Remake was received exceedingly well commercially. Much recently, Square Enix released Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster, collection that saw updated improvements to the original six mainline Final Fantasy games for the SNES. The Pixel Remaster has also been well received by fans, indicating for Square Enix that the money is best betted on developing remakes of their past titles.
There has been news for a number of years now that Final Fantasy IX would be getting its own remake, akin to that of Final Fantasy VI Remake. While there’s been no confirmation whatsoever from Square Enix, the Nvidia leak in 2019 has so far all but become confirmed titles over time, such as The Talos Principle 2, Kingdom Hearts 4, and Resident Evil 4 Remake, among many others. The recent comments from the shareholder meeting only give a more likely indication that Final Fantasy IX remake could be revealed in the near future.
