Square Enix and Luminous Productions have been working together to develop a brand new IP known as Project Athia. Little is known about the story at the moment, however, from the over one-minute trailer, one can see that the game promises to be filled with fantastical elements. The trailer shows gamers towering mountains and terrifying monsters, including a horrifying looking dog and a dragon with a burning crater in its chest. The game’s story direction was led by Rogue One Writer Gary Whitta, who “led a crack team of A-list writers” in order to shape this new world. Based on the initial setting, it appears that the world is will have a medieval aesthetic, which can be supported by later creatures in the game, such as the dragon.
The game’s main protagonist will be an unnamed female who based on the trailer descriptions, and her clothing at the beginning of the trailer, may not be from that world. The trailer hints at possible story elements stating that the main character’s resolve “…will be tested” as well as stating that “truths will be questioned” and “devotions will be doubted.” Aside from these small hints, the trailer shows the protagonist leaping far distances, manipulating plants, and being confronted by an unknown creature. The trailer ends with a decrepit looking dragon walking with a crater burning in its stomach. Little more is known about Project Athia at the moment, and the name may change as it is only a working title.
The game will be a PlayStation 5 exclusive, and it is unknown when it will be released.
