Specs Revealed for Xbox Project Scorpio

According to IGN, Microsoft has recently revealed large upgrade to the Xbox One, tentatively called Xbox Project Scorpio. Kotaku states that Project Scorpio seems more like an entirely new console than just an upgrade like the Xbox One S was. Kotaku also said, however, that Microsoft has ensured that Project Scorpio will be able to play Xbox One and Xbox 360 games, regardless of if it is an Xbox One upgrade or indeed an entirely new console.

IGN reports Project Scorpio’s specs as follows: A CPU with eight custom x86 cores, a GPU with 6 teraflops, 12GB GDDR5 of RAM, a memory bandwidth of 326GB/s, inclusion of vapour-chamber cooling and a 1TB hard drive. IGN then goes on to explain that this means Project Scorpio’s CPU is 30% faster than the Xbox One’s CPU, Project Scorpio’s GPU is 4.6 times more powerful than the Xbox One’s GPU and Project Scorpio’s RAM will allow it to easily reach and maintain 4K resolutions. IGN adds that Xbox One games played on Project Scorpio will receive boosts in performance in lowered load times, sustained frame rates and higher resolutions. They also state that Project Scorpio is “definitively more powerful than PS4 Pro.”

Project Scorpio was tested by playing a demo version of ForzaTech. During this test, Project Scorpio ran the game consistently at 4K/60 frames per second using about 60% to 70% of its full power. The Xbox One would reportedly use 90% of its power to achieve these same results.
