State of Decay 2 Maps Detailed in Blog Post

In blog post the other day, Sayna Weathers, Community Director at Undead Labs, created a blog post to discuss some of the many rumors and speculation going around about what the map will be like in State of Decay 2. The big news to come out of the post is the fact that the game will have three different maps, each of which being the size of the original game.

Each of these maps will have, “slightly different environments, definitely different landmarks and locations, different layouts lending themselves to different strategies, unique home sites, and even different mission types.” Now at this point you may be wondering why they would choose to do it this way, and she detailed it out pretty well “primarily, because it makes the game more fun”.

The decision was made to give the game a feeling that it was massive. The developer felt as though if you just had one map that was three times the original, after traveling so much it would begin to seem as though you were in the same place and the scenery would look the same. This makes sense as you can change up the location of the maps and set them apart slightly so each new area seems fresh and new. Sayna also gave a hint that, “the multiple map set up makes it easy to expand the world down the line, if you know what I mean.”

I KNOW you all are going to ask ‘but what can we take with us between maps?’ About half of you skipped the previous paragraph just to see if I was going to tell you. Foge (for new survivors, that’s Richard Foge, the Design Director here at the Lab) says that the intent is for us to be able to take all of our people, and everything in our supply lockers and rucks.

Players will be able to take almost all of their things with them when going to a new map at no cost to the player. Later on in the blog she even mentioned that the plan is for players to even get a refund for some of the facilities built that won’t be transferred to the new area.

After all this, its still important to note that the game is still in development and anything can still be changed or taken out. With that said, We’ll all have to keep a close eye on the games developments to see if by its launch date it holds up to the hype.
