Cold Symmetry, the studio behind the new action-RPG Mortal Shell, welcomes all analogies and comparisons between their game and the popular Dark Souls series many have compared it to. Many games in the past have often been compared to the famously difficult Dark Souls series for their challenging mechanics, gruesome enemies, or dark atmosphere, but none have quite fit the mold that the Dark Souls series has created. The official trailer shown at the PC Gaming Show this year showed off a bit of what the story in Mortal Shell will look like. As players follow what appears to be a very fragile being that is capable of inhabiting the shells of various warriors, they will meet new warriors and learn more about them to harness their powers further. The ten-minute gameplay showcase for the game shows off the murky “soulslike” world that players will initially find themselves in as they pick up the game.
A general description for Mortal Shell is given on the game’s official website, “a deep action RPG that tests your sanity and resilience in a shattered world. Combat is strategic, deliberate and unforgiving.” The combat is similar to the live-action dynamic fighting seen in the Souls series, and the gameplay footage shown all shows the types of gruesome enemies that players will fight in the game’s world.
Mortal Shell also has an official closed Beta that will begin on July 3rd for PCs, with the official release slated for the third quarter of 2020. More information about registration and participation in the beta can be beta webpage.
