Sony Looks To Be Set To Bid PlayStation 4 Console Farewell Discontinuing Multiple PS4 Models

It looks like the end of PlayStation 4 has begun, to an extent. A Japanese retailer has revealed that they will no longer restock several models of the PlayStation 4. Translated by Cheesemeister, the notice in the picture reads “Dear customers: due to the manufacturer ending production, the following products will not be restocked.” This includes the PS4 500 Glacier White, PS4 1TB Jet Black, PS4 1TB Glacier White, PS4 2TB Jet Black, and the PS4 Pro 1TB Glacier White.

Officially, nothing has been confirmed or said about the matter yet, but there are several instances where this was going to be the case. Last month, on the official PlayStation Direct store, it briefly stated that it would no longer offer PlayStation 4 Pro consoles for sale. Furthermore, last month, the U.S. online store had a message on its PS4 Pro product page saying, “There are currently no plans to restock this item in the future.”

As Sony starts to halt production on PlayStation 4, it doesn’t mean that they will abandon it at the same time. Some games like Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales is available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Plus, upcoming releases like Horizon Forbidden West will be available on PS4|PS5 too. Sony said that the full transition from PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 will be about three years so there will be some titles in the future that will be playable on both platforms.

As Sony starts the process of discontinuing the PlayStation 4, they will also do whatever they can to restock PlayStation 5 which had the biggest launch month in U.S. history when it was released in November. A recent report revealed that 3.4 million units were sold in its first 4 weeks which is the highest ever for a PlayStation console.
