Sony Dev Comments On PlayStation 5 Pricing

Sony recently shed a little light about the PlayStation 5 and Many have been wondering about the next generation of gaming and just what kind of hardware will they be playing on whenever it comes around.

During an interview lead system architect for the PlayStation 4 Mark Cerny gave a few details on just what he has worked on so far for the console. He revealed that the console will contain features such as backwards compatibility, a solid state drive to decrease rendering speed for environments, ray tracing, 8k resolution support, 3D audio and more.

All of these high end features seemingly put into this console can certainly excite PlayStation fans but there is still a question that many have on their mind that wasn’t directly answered in the interview. How much is this thing going to cost? Well we didn’t get a direct answer or even a price window, but thanks to a post on twitter showing an exchange between Wired’s Peter Rubin and Cerny.

Rubin: there’s always been a general range of launch pricing. Will the next console hew to that range

Cerny: I believe that we will be able to release it at [a suggested retail price] that will be appealing to gamers in light of its advanced feature set.

Rubin: Meaning that it may cost a bit more, but what you’re getting is well worth it?

Cerny: That’s about all I can say.

With that being said we can expect the PS5 to be more than its predecessor, but at a price that seems fair for all the features that the system will contain. We most likely won’t know get any prices until the system is closer to launch so as for right now we have to sit tight and wait until Sony is ready to officially reveal their next generation PlayStation.
