Sony Celebrates 5 Years of PS4 With New Bundle and Impressive Stats

The Playstation 4 has become a household name in the modern gaming industry, one of the titans of the console world that is now synonymous with high-quality gaming experiences. Alongside the Nintendo Switch, Sony’s flagship device has smashed through expectations since its early days, elevating the single player experience to astronomical heights. It’s not common for companies to release sales numbers outside of quarterly financial reports and investor meetings, but for the sake of the console’s 5th anniversary, Sony has released nifty infographic detailing the PS4’s many achievements.

Acting as a sort of end-of-the-year summary for the system, the blog post lists many of the most important milestones the PS4 has achieved, most specifically hardware sales of more than 86.1 million units and astounding worldwide software sales of over 777.9 million units. Senior Vice President Eric Lampel’s post then goes on to delineate some of the more interesting highlights of the system. Some notable stats include the black Dualshock 4 controller being the most popular color, Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 making the best-selling title list, the most popular list, as well as the most downloaded on the PSN rankings, and the limited edition 500-Million model being the rarest version.

To celebrate its fifth birthday, the PS4 is getting a new bundle as well for the holiday season. Unsurprisingly, with how well the game’s sold on the console, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 bundle will be added to the existing lineup. Given that Sony recently discretely released newer, quieter version of the PS4 Pro, this holiday bundle is for the 1TB slim version PS4, and will retail at $299.99. The bundle is set to release November 27, so after the annual Black Friday/Cyber Monday event but still in time for the Christmas rush.

The PS4 has come a long way since its initial release, and is now the premiere platform for triple A titles. Sony’s investment in generating quality first-party titles has paid off in a big way, so it is only appropriate that proper gratitude be given towards all the gaming fans that have made possible such a momentous achievement.
