Sony Announces First PlayStation Playmaker Collaboration, Limited Edition LeBron James PlayStation 5 Accessories

Sony has announced new limited edition PlayStation 5 accessories in collaboration with LeBron James through new program titled PlayStation Playmakers. The new accessories that LeBron helped design and inspire, include a PlayStation 5 console cover and DualSense controller. Both the exclusive console cover and DualSense controller feature playful colored graffiti adorned with numerous crowns and scribbled motivational quotes from LeBron himself. In a quote from LeBron on the collaboration with PlayStation he states,

“It’s still crazy to think a kid from Akron who grew up playing games is getting to create something like this. Designing a console cover and controller with PlayStation that gives a nod to my I Promise students and where we come from is a pretty cool thing. I hope it’s something that continues to inspire everyone who touches it, and that they have a little fun finding meaning in every detail.”

The two accessories will be available for pre-order from PlayStation’s Direct store later this year. However, it’s unclear yet when it’ll be released, as well as the pricing and select countries it’ll be available in.

Alongside the accessories announcement, Sony has revealed a new program named PlayStation Playmakers. The initiative is said to be a collaboration with famous icons from, “athletes, actors, artists, gamers and entertainers in pop culture today.” Some of those involved with Sony on the new partnership include country music’s Jimmie Allen, comedian King Bach, WNBA All-Rookie NaLyssa Smith, and many more. Sony has stated to stay updated on their respective social media channels for more announcements soon.

Since releasing in late 2020, the PlayStation 5 hardware hasn’t seen too many design updates akin to that of its predecessor the PlayStation 4 which saw a litany of exclusive consoles and controller designs alongside big-name game releases. Currently, the PlayStation 5 utilizes switchable console cover plates that snap on to change the color of the console.
