SMITE is Coming to PS4! Closed Beta Starts in March

When it comes to gods, we didn’t know “omnipresence” extended to video game consoles.

Yesterday, Hi-Rez Studios announced that their wildly-popular MOBA SMITE will be coming to PlayStation 4, to round out the gaming trifecta of PC-Xbox One-PS4.

According to the official PlayStation blog, a Closed Alpha testing stage has already begun as of yesterday. Those interested in signing up for the Closed Beta – which begins in early March – can do so here. The Beta will include access to all of the game’s modes and maps, in addition to the five starter gods – Ymir, Thor, Neith, Guan Yu, and Ra – and whichever gods happen to be on free rotation at the time.

In addition, the Closed Beta will introduce several new cosmetic skins to SMITE, with each one being exclusive to the PS4 version of the game. Players who link their PS4 accounts to their Hi-Rez PC accounts will receive Odin’s “World’s Collide” skin for free. PS Plus members will also receive Kulkulkan’s “KuKu4” skin.

A PS4 Founder’s Pack will also be available for $29.99. The Founder’s Pack will unlock Ymir’s “C4codemon” skin, as well as Ares’ “Soldier of Fortune” skin, 400 gems to be spent on cosmetics, a beta key, and access to all present and future playable gods.

Hi-Rez’s reasoning for expanding into the realm of PS4 can be read below:

SMITE has been popular on both PC and Xbox One and making the game available on PS4 has been frequently requested by the community. SMITE uses a “3rd Person” camera, while traditional MOBA games play with the “above the map” isometric camera angle. The difference between the two is MASSIVE. It makes SMITE ideal for a console controller.

Hi-Rez aims to keep the PS4 version at most 2-3 weeks behind the PC version of SMITE in terms of content updates.

No date has yet been announced for SMITE’s PS4 release, but Closed Beta begins early next month. Signups for the Closed Beta are being taken here.
