Skydance New Media is Collaborating with Lucasfilm Games to Bring Fans an Immersive Action-Adventure AAA Star Wars Title

Lucasfilm Games and Skydance New Media on Tuesday announced a collaboration to develop and produce a cinematic action-adventure game featuring an original story in the Star Wars universe. Skydance New Media is headed by Amy Hennig, an industry veteran most notable as the writer and creative director behind the bestselling Uncharted game series. Star Wars has inspired Hennig as a child since the first film was released in 1977.

Not much information was released about this untitled future Star Wars game, but Hennig held the prospects of making a similar one in her time as Senior Creative Director at Electronic Arts before leaving. This project was titled ‘Project Ragtag’ but was canceled after a variety of challenges. While working on Ragtag, fellow designers described Hennig as brilliant but overstretched since she dove into every aspect of the game and would take months to review their work only to turn it down. When Hennig left the studio, that idea was shelved but is now coming to fruition with the video game division a part of the movie production company Skydance. Fans can expect “an epic journey with this Star Wars action-adventure title”, according to Executive Vice President & GM of Skydance New Media Julian Beak.

“We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working again with Amy. She and the Skydance New Media team have the talent and ambition to create a unique Star Wars adventure,” said Douglas Reilly, Vice President, Lucasfilm Games. He looks forward to sharing more with Star Wars fans when “the time is right”. Lucasfilm Games is the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm.

Skydance New Media was formed in 2019 by Hennig and Beak with the aim to create high-fidelity and richly interactive experiences crafted for both traditional gaming platforms and emerging streaming services. It is the fifth pillar with Skydance, joining a team of highly experienced and diverse developers and artists. Their first project was announced in October 2021, which involved a partnership with another huge franchise- Marvel Entertainment. Similarly, this game will have an original story and unique take on beloved Marvel characters.

“Our first productions will tap into the traditions of adventure cinema to create an engaging, energetic experience that captures the spirit of TV and film to excite both longtime gamers and non-gamers alike.” –
