Skate Story: The Psychedelic and Technical Skateboarding Game Unlike Any Other

Announced during the Guerrilla Collective livestreamSkate Story is a technical skateboarding game where the player is in control of a crystallized character, reminiscent of the Silver Surfer, as they skate their way through the Underworld. According to the trailer, “this psychedelic skateboarding experience comes with an aesthetic like Superhot and controls like Skate.” Developed by Sam Eng, a trailer was released during the Guerrilla Collective games showcase, showing off the technical movement control that the game offers. The developers also revealed some information about the idea behind the mechanics of the game, “Skate Story is a mixture of different skating games, with the idea that players can frame the perfect setup for their next trick.” The trailer shows off the crystallized figure skating their way through eerie halls as they approach a large and beautiful distant sun, with an environment reminiscent of the aesthetics of Superhot. The abstract art of Skate Story gives a perspective of skating from what seems to be the dark underworld towards a bright and colorful paradise.

Along with the abstract art style, the game appears to be one of the more technical skating games to date. Allowing the player to maneuver with single-foot motions and set up for a number of tricks, the game offers quite a bit of creative freedom for how players can move throughout the world. Despite its appearances, Skate Story is more than just the traditional “endless runner” game based purely on aesthetics and art, as players will be able to use multiple buttons on their controllers at once in order to execute kickflips, ollies and a number of other technical tricks. No release date has been announced for the game yet, but a test build may be releasing soon in the future. Anyone interested in the game can check out Skate Story’s official website and sign up for email notifications about the game’s release and possible future playtests.
