Silent Hill 4: The Room is Now Available on PC Through GOG

Last week, Konami surprised everyone by bringing several of their classic IP’s to PC through GOG, which included one of the all-time greatest games, Metal Gear Solid. Just when we thought that was over with, it looks like the company isn’t completely done with the reveals, as they have now added another one of their titles to PC through GOG, this time from the Silent Hill franchise. Silent Hill 4: The Room is available right now for PC on GOG, making it readily accessible for everyone for the first time since 2012 through the PlayStation Network.

Silent Hill 4: The Room originally launched in 2004 for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, and PC (without a digital launcher at the time). The setting was quite the departure for the franchise, being the first to not take place in the titular town of Silent Hill. Instead the game takes place in Ashfield, particularly, in an apartment of the main protagonist Henry Townshend, which has been locked down for some time. Henry’s objective is to escape the apartment, but it soon goes way beyond that with a suspenseful, scary, and action packed storyline that is very typical of the Silent Hills franchise.

Upon release, the game was well-received by critics and fans alike, but some players were alienated due to the fact that it did not take place in their favorite fog-filled town. In addition, Silent Hill 4: The Room was geared more to the action oriented audience, as opposed to the previous installments where puzzles and the frighting atmosphere were front and center before anything else. Speaking of which, Konami made an interesting choice to add Silent Hill 4: The Room to their growing GOG collection, but not the older, and much more popular Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2, with the latter being considered one of the greatest horror games of all time.

This is also similar to how they added the aforementioned Metal Gear Solid, and Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance last week to GOG, but not the extremely popular third game in the franchise Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. It’s possible that the company is testing the waters to see who would be interested in these titles for PC in 2020, but it should go without saying that any horror genre fan would take some interest in the Silent Hill series, especially if the majority of them is available to purchase in one fell swoop. Hopefully Konami sees this from the fanbase going forward, as we would love to have more classic Konami titles to play on PC.

Silent Hill 4: The Room is available on PC now through GOG for $9.99.
