For any popular video game series that continues to receive new entries, developers are bound to try ideas that work and ideas that fans are more mixed on. One practice almost universally appreciated by fans is the ability to take feedback over the changes and implement them in future updates or installments. This is what many hope is the case with the new update for Sid Meier’s Civilization VII, Test of Time. The update received an announcement trailer earlier today going over the new gameplay fans can expect upon its release.
The first feature promoted in the trailer is the ability for players to choose both the starting age and their civilization at the start of the game. This civilization can continue with them throughout the entire course of the game, a departure from the original game where it would change with each age. According to the update post, this change was not only the most requested among fans but will serve to bring the game closer to older entries in the Civilization series.
In addition to bringing back an old feature, the update also promises to rework the Victories system. Under the new framework, decisions throughout the game will be more adequately rewarded to encourage more strategic diversity. The final major change announced was the introduction of Triumphs, which are smaller objectives that players can complete for benefits during a game in order to keep each one unique. In addition to the structural changes, the update will also add a new continent map, narrative events, and music.
The Civilization series has been through many iterations, with the core always managing to bring back those who enjoy watching a civilization grow throughout the ages. The Test of Time update looks to bring the series back to those roots. The update is set to release for free on May 19th.
