As is the case with a lot of games recently, Gran Turismo 7 has been delayed to sometime in 2022. It was first announced at Sony’s The Future of Gaming presentation in 2020 and was slated to release exclusively on the PlayStation 5 in 2021. For those familiar with the Gran Turismo series, they know that the developers, Polyphony Digital, often institute lengthy delays on the games, pandemic or not. Gran Turismo 7 is not an exception. Sony announced this delay in a short statement in conjunction with more information on the upcoming PlayStation VR, both of which are now expected in 2022.
GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.
Gran Turismo 7 is the successor to Gran Turismo 6, which was released back in 2013, however, there was another title in the series released more recently in 2017 named Gran Turismo Sport which turned the popular franchise into a more competitive genre. Unfortunately, there has not been too much information released about this upcoming title save for what was announced during the Future of Gaming presentation back in the summer of 2020. From what we know, the seventh installment will see the return of the Gran Turismo simulation mode which was a large aspect of the single-player campaign. Players can also expect to race on the traditional racing track with traditional vehicles. It was supposed to release at a similar time that the PlayStation 5 dropped as a title to showcase all the new features on this next-gen console, including the DualSense controller, but now it will come more than a year after the console release.
While Gran Turismo 7 might be a year or two away, there are plenty of other PlayStation games coming soon to play in the meantime such as Returnal, Resident Evil Village, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.
