San Diego Comic Con 2018 to Host a Massive Amount of Video Game Panels

San Diego Comic Con 2018 is finally here, and is in full swing, as thousands of fans have swarmed the San Diego Convention Center.  Fans can expect a plethora of announcements from the entertainment industry, and video games are no exception, as the convention is set to host an enormous amount of panels over the next four days.  Their are way too many panels to note, and going through all of them would take a long time, so we’ll highlight a select few that grabbed our attention.

On Thursday July 19, from 12 pm-1 pm in Room 6BCF, Blizzard will be hosting a panel for their popular digital card game, Hearthstone.  Titled Behind the Cards: The Art of Blizzard’s Hearthstone, this panel goes into depth about the creation of the cards players use in the game.  The art director, Ben Thompson, Senior FX artist, Hadidjah Chamberlain, Senior Concept Artist, Jomaro Kindred, and Illustrator Matt Dixon will be present for the panel.

On the same day, at 3:30 pm-4:30 pm also in Room 6BCF, Capcom will be celebrating 30 years of Mega Man with the panel Mega Man 30th Anniversary.  Developers will discuss all of the work they’ve done with the iconic character, as well as some behind the scenes look at the upcoming Mega Man 11.  Producers Kazuhiro Tsuchiya and Nonaka Daizo will preside over the panel.  The moderator will be Capcoms own Tim Turi.

On Friday July 20, from 4:30 pm-5:30 pm in Room 6BCF, the critically acclaimed God of War game that was released earlier this year will recieve a closer look at how the franchise was given new life with the panel God of War: Reimagining Franchises.  The Creative Director, Cory Barlog, will be joined by two different TV/Movie directors as they discuss the creative process between video games and films/shows.  The Directors will include, Steven DeKnight, producer of the Daredevil TV series and director of Pacific Rim: Uprising, and Jordan Vogt-Roberts, the director for Kong: Skull Island and the upcoming Metal Gear film.

On Saturday, July 21, from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm, in Room 24ABC, one of the greatest Japanese artists of all time, Yoshitaka Amano, will host a panel honoring all of his designs, which spans decades with thousand of works, including the Final Fantasy series, Vampire Hunter D, and Neil Gaiman’s Sandman: The Dream Hunters.  Fans can look forward to live drawings from the man himself, as well as participating in a Q&A.  The panel will be moderated by Michael Gombos.
