Rust, developed by Facepunch Studios and released in February 2018, is a popular multiplayer survival game. It achieved critical success following its release to PC via Steam, selling over three million copies by 2015 in its early access form. Rust was released to Play Station 4 and Xbox One in 2021 and has continued to evolve and expand over the years.
The game spawns its players onto a beach at the start of each playthrough, equipped with nothing but a torch and a rock. From there, they are left to set off and explore the island and its monuments. Rust features craftable items, base construction, a complex ally and enemy system, and the ability to raid other player bases.
Rust now plans on bringing its iconic survival gameplay to the world of mobile gaming. The news was officially announced on November 5 by Facepunch Studios via a post on the game’s official X (formerly Twitter) account. The post doesn’t offer much in the way of specifics, but it does encourage potential players to stay updated on the game’s progress with the official Rust Discord server. An updated Discord link is conveniently provided in a reply to the original post.

Further information on Rust Mobile is included on Facepunch’s official website. When it comes to the expected mobile gameplay, Facepunch Studios assures fans that their development partners “deeply appreciate Rust’s notorious survival gameplay.” They intend on bringing core aspects of the original gameplay to Rust Mobile. The website continues on to describe the game’s current development stage, proclaiming that both Facepunch and their developer partners “feel good about the game’s potential on handheld devices.” It states that Rust Mobile has already undergone some internal testing and is expected to enter a limited test phase “early next year.”
As of yet, no information has been released regarding the game’s predicted launch date. Pocket Gamer predicts that Rust Mobile won’t “arrive in any form until late 2025 at the least,” although this may prove incorrect with time. Facepunch Studios does confirm that the game will be available on both Android and iOS devices, however, and they plan on releasing all potential updates to the Rust Mobile Discord sever.
