RuneScape Reignited Will Introduce a Way to Play Characters with a New Economy on December 2nd

For a game as beloved as RuneScape, it comes as no surprise that frequent updates and iterations of the game would come out for those who want to play the game differently. RuneScape itself is one of the best examples of how a game can becomes more versatile over the years with the separation of the base game and Old School RuneScape providing two very different games to fans of the series. Now, the goal to recapture a classic experience has returned to the developers with the announcement of RuneScape Reignited at Runefest 2026, a new way to play the game coming later this year.

On the official website, the goal of the new build of RuneScape is laid out along with the new features that will be introduced alongside it. The most prominent change announced was an overhaul to the game’s economy, allowing players to completely ignore Dailyscape, Auras and, MTX Items, which the post labeled as “integrity breaking”. Alongside that change, numerous balance changes and reworks applying to player houses, avatars, and dungeoneering were announced to be taking effect at the same time as a culmination of the team’s work over the past few years.

The post also states that there will be a new reason to replay the game from the start with the introduction of Reignited characters. For these characters, all forms of paid progression will be disabled, and the Hall of Legends will become available, allowing players to compete for world-first achievements again to be immortalized. The new trailer details the changes more broadly, with a mixed reception in the comments citing a concern over dividing the player base over multiple game types.

RuneScape has shown itself to be incredibly adaptable in the past, with a loyal fanbase eager to continue playing. Those fans will have the chance to appraise the new Reignited mode along with the other changes when RuneScape Reignited releases on December 2nd.
