Sony XDev Europe is working on a complementary side project with the development of LittleBigPlanet 3. The game is called Run SackBoy! Run!, and it’s coming to PS Vita, Android, and iOS this October, and will be free-to-play.
The survival-platform game was announced to be in development on PlayStation’s blog. Exclusive costumes can be earned in the game and transferred to LittleBigPlanet 3.
It appears to play like a complex side-scrolling Temple Run. Player’s Sackboys are perpetually chased by a creativity-destroying machine. Sackboys must dodge obstacles and collect power-ups and bubbles, with increasing difficulty, during their escape.
Simple tapping and swiping are the mechanics employed in Run SackBoy! Run! Areas from previous titles in the LBP series are included in the spinoff, such as The Gardens, The Canyons, and Avalonia.
Bubbles can be collected by running over them. Collected bubbles buy upgrades and costumes. Costumes have multipliers, and, clearly, increase high scores. Power-ups are also available, including jet packs, gliders, shields, and magnets.
A “mission ladder system” provides new challenges for every playthrough. Stickers are available to collect, much like in the main series.
