Rumored PS5 Pro Specs Leak

Last generation saw something new for the video game industry with the mid-generational update of consoles with the PS4 and Xbox One X|S. Microsoft has revealed that they are planning to release a refresh of the Series X console sometime in the Fall. Likewise, there have been reports that Sony will also release PlayStation 5 Pro sometime in 2024 as well. Now, it seems that specs for the PlayStation 5 Pro have leaked.

The leaked specs were revealed from the YouTube channel Moore’s Law is Dead. Insider Gaming has since confirmed that they are real. The specs came from a PlayStation developer portal which was sent out this week to third-party developers. Insider Gaming has also confirmed that Dev Kits for the PS5 Pro which is under the codename ‘Trinity’ have been available to first-party studios since September 2023, and third-party studios since January 2024. Test Kits will be available in the Spring which will be identical to the final product.

Earlier reports revealed that Trinity would be targeting improved and consistent FPS at 4K resolution, a new ‘performance mode’ for 8K resolution, 30 WGP and 18000mts memory, and accelerated ray tracing. The leak has revealed that the PS5 Pro will render 45% faster than the PS5, 2-3x ray-tracing (x4 in some cases), 33.5 teraflops, PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution Upscaling) upscaling/antialiasing solution, support for resolutions up to 8K is planned, custom machine learning architecture, AI accelerator,  supporting 300 TOPS of 8-bit computation / 67 TFLOPS of 16-bit floating point.

The PS5 Pro will also feature a ‘High CPU Frequency Mode’ which will take the CPU to 3.85GHz – a 10% increase over the standard console. In this mode, more power is allocated to the CPU and will downclock the GPU by around 1.5%, resulting in roughly 1% lower GPU performance. Audio will also see an increase in performance. The ACV will run at a higher clock speed over the standard PlayStation 5, resulting in the ACM library having 35% more performance. This means more convolution and more FFT or IFFT can be processed.

Insider Gaming says that the PS5 Pro is currently aiming to release in Holiday 2024. However, that may change due to the lack of first-party games for PlayStation this year.
