It’s been a very long time since we heard about any real possible resurgence of a Konami owned IP. There have been whispers here and there but this is the first real instance of something that could be a possibility. Video Game Chronicle’s Andrew Marmo tweeted what is allegedly leaked screens from an unannounced Silent Hill 2 Remake that is supposedly being developed by the infamous Bloober Team. The screens are incredibly low quality, filled with huge water marks of “No one was here,” and very hard to give full credibility. However, Marmo also posted an image of post from Reset Era from another well-known game aficionado, Dusk Golem, who verifies the authenticity of the images, albeit with additional wording that they’re nowhere near what the final product looks like.
The images show the back of Silent Hill 2 protagonist James Sunderland in what looks like a third person over-the-shoulder perspective. He’s wearing his signature green jacket and is traversing through what appears to be the Brookhaven Hospital where Sunderland famously takes on the horrifying Nurses. The accompanied post made by Dusk Golem reiterates that the images are in fact real, but does not reflect what it will end up looking like. “They’re real, but they’re not even CLOSE to the final product. These are from an internal pitch demo from Bloober before they got greenlit.” Golem states. “Out of everything that could’ve leaked, this isn’t actually what the final game looks like.”
Golem goes on to mention that Konami was looking for pitches in Summer 2018, and this was one of the projects to get a greenlight. The image leak coincides with Konami announcing that they’ll be at this year’s Tokyo Game Show and will be revealing new IP from a game franchise that is “loved around the world.” Some concept art was also leaked just earlier this year, further fueling the rumor of a remake. Some have been taking these new image leaks with a grain of salt, but the timing between the leaks and Konami’s impending reveal are way too close to each other. With so much happening in such a short time for an unannounced title, there’s a fairly high chance that we’ll get an official reveal in the foreseeable future, and all signs are pointing to a potential announcement at the Tokyo Game Show 2022.
