Rumor: Fromsoftware Working on New Playstation Exclusive

Everyone get your teaspoons out, because this one should probably be taken with a grain of salt. Recent rumors from multiple sources have corroborated that Fromsoftware, the developers behind Dark Souls, Bloodbourne, Sekiro and the upcoming Elden Ring are already working on a new project exclusive to Playstation.

As originally reported by Gamesradar, the rumor surfaced during recent episode of the Real Deal Xbox Podcast. During the show, the podcast’s host let slip that he’d learned of a deal between Fromsoft and Sony to bring another exclusive to their consoles. Obviously, this might sound like hearsay, but it’s important to keep in mind that this is the same person who originally leaked Ghost of Tsushima’s Iki Island expansion, so he does have at least some credibility. This rumor makes sense considering Fromsoftware’s history of partnering with Sony to release exclusive titles. Most recently, Demon’s Souls Remake released as a Playstation 5 exclusive in the same way as Bloodbourne before it, so this would be far from the first time a Fromsoft game is kept on Sony consoles.

The rumor was later corroborated by Nick from Xbox Era, who also said he’d intended to announce it later this week. Again, this is still firmly in rumor territory, but this proves that the rumor has become widespread enough that different, unaffiliated sources are picking up on it, which is a good sign for those of us who want this rumor to be true.

As for specific details, the game is supposedly not a sequel of any kind, but instead will fall into Fromsoft’s Souls-like library alongside titles like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Unfortunately, a direct sequel to Bloodbourne was specifically de-confirmed during the podcast. However, Fromsoft has a history of excelling in new environments with unique stories to tell, and I’m personally more excited to see what brand new IP the studio could be cooking up behind the scenes.

Fromsoft is currently working on Elden Ring, which is less than half a year away from its’ January 21st release date. After seeing the game’s official trailer last June, we can assume with some confidence that this game is fairly close to being done, and with no other games officially announced from the studio, it’s not hard to believe that the Soulsbourne team is working on their next game to some capacity. Here’s hoping that Fromsoftware’s future stays as industry-defining as ever.
