The next title on the never-ending series of games receiving remaster comes the 2004 strategy game, Rome: Total War. The remastered version, named Total War: Rome Remastered, comes from developers Feral Interactive and Creative Assembly and intends to update the original title with multiple gameplay and visual improvements.
The remaster will have updated visuals as well as some new content. Players will be able to access 16 new factions that were previously unplayable as well as being able to play the new Merchant agent. This agent can be sent out on missions to establish trade routes as well as pay other rival merchants off. Other changes include a new tactical map, heat maps, and icon overlays which can be used in campaign mode. Players can also play against one another with the new cross-platform support for Windows, Mac, and Linux. For new players, Feral Interactive is making it easier to learn how to play with a redesigned tutorial, new in-game wiki, and other accessibility features.
On the visual side, players will be able to experience Total War: Rome Remastered in 4k for the first time. It will also have ultra-widescreen and UHD resolution support. In terms of game graphics, buildings and objects have been remodeled and environmental effects have been added like dust clouds and haze.
Right now, Total War: Rome Remastered is available for pre-order on Steam for $29.99 and will release on April 29. It will come with the Alexander and Barbarian Invasion DLCs and the original Rome: Total War Collection. However, for players who have already purchased Rome: Total War they can buy the remastered version for half the price until the end of May.
