One of the more intriguing AAA titles that we’re looking forward to is the PlayStation 5 exclusive Returnal. Unfortunately, it looks like we’ll be waiting a bit longer to get our hands on it. The developer, Housemarque, and PlayStation have announced that the game has officially been delayed until April 30, which is merely a six-week difference from the original March 19 launch date. According to PlayStation the reason for the postponement is due to “give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque. ”
Housemarque initially revealed Returnal in June 2020 during the PlayStation 5 reveal event, and soon after got the rogue-like community talking. In the game you play as Selene who is apparently stuck on an alien world and unable to leave, and also unable to die as she continues to relive the events of her experience over and over. Returnal was also given a gameplay trailer during The Game Awards last year and showed off some amazing visuals as well as the third-person shooter combat that we’ve been waiting for. The developer also revealed the first release date that night, before it was delayed.
Considering the delay difference is only a little more than a month, it’s more than likely that the game is nearly ready to go at this point. However, as we’ve always said, the more time a developer has to complete their project, the better. Judging from what we’ve seen thus far, it’ll be worth the wait. Housemarque is also known for their arcade shoot-em-ups such as the PlayStation exclusive, Resogun, and Nex Machina: Death Machine, both of which have been critically acclaimed.
Returnal will officially launch on April 30 exclusively for the PlayStation 5.
