Respawn Says Anti-Cheating Systems Working Well, More on the Way

In recent blog post, Respawn detailed the work they have been doing to prevent cheaters in their battle royale game Apex Legends. According to the company, the measures implemented thus far are working well to both prevent cheating and ban players that do find way. While the post explicitly mentions that they can’t give too many details on the updates to come, so that those creating the cheat systems aren’t tipped off, they do go into detail on how the past updates have curbed the practice.

One of the most recent additions to Apex is the reporting tool called Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC). With the help of players of the game, Respawn has been able to identify some of the more under-the-radar cheats that had been previously undetectable. They say that cheaters never win, and Respawn obviously subscribes to that saying, most exemplified by the numerous player bans (more than 770k total), account creation blocks (more than 300k total), and a ban of more than 3,000 cheat selling accounts in the past 20 days. Overall, Respawn’s efforts have cut down the number of PC matches affected by cheaters by more than half in the last month.

According to the post, Respawn is “working closely with key experts across EA, including EA Security and Fraud, the Origin teams, and our fellow developers at DICE, FIFA, and Capital Games, in addition to Easy-Anti-Cheat.” With numerous updates released in the past month to positive results, Respawn vows to continue their efforts indefinitely. “We’re attacking this from every angle: from improvements in detecting cheaters, to bolstering resources and tools, to improving processes and other sneaky things to combat sellers and cheaters.”

While the blog post was focused mainly on cheating, they did touch briefly upon some server performance and audio issues that were mentioned in last week’s blog post, the same one that pretty much diminished all hope for another Titanfall game. Respawn is asking for videos from players experiencing missing footstep audio issue. If that sounds like an issue you’re dealing with, be sure to head over to the support portal to submit a report.
