One of the most anticipated releases of 2021 was Resident Evil Village. After Capcom brought the series back to its survival horror roots with Resident Evil VII: Biohazard, fans of the franchise were eager for the next installment to follow Ethan Winters’ next chapter. After these latest reports, Capcom tells us just how many people have been able to experience this epic story.
In a tweet released by Resident Evil’s official Twitter account (hence the “BIOHAZARD” account name), it has been reported that Resident Evil Village has sold over 4.5 million units. To put this into perspective, Village surpassed Resident Evil VII’s sales figures in the same period of time. After nine weeks, Resident Evil VII had sold 3.5 million units. While Biohazard is still the best selling game in the series with nine million units sold since its release, this upwards trend shows that Village is likely to take that title for itself in the near future.
To give you even more insight as to where Village stands sales-wise, Resident Evil 3 Remake took five days to get to 2 million units sold, while Resident Evil 2 Remake surpassed 3 million in four days. The only other Resident Evil game to do better than Village’s sale numbers was Resident Evil 6, which reached 4.5 million copies in two days. Capcom has a lot to celebrate when it comes to the established survival horror series. Fans do as well, as this news comes hot off the tracks that Village will be receiving additional DLC, as announced at E3 2021.
