Today, Capcom and the developers behind Resident Evil have announced the Resident Evil showcase where the Resident Evil producers will share more news surrounding the franchise in general, but will also be providing some new details regarding the upcoming Resident Evil Village including a new trailer and the first look at gameplay. The showcase takes place next week on January 21 at 2:00 pm PT/ 5 am ET/ 22:00 GMT.
Resident Evil Village was first announced and revealed during the PlayStation 5 reveal event. Not much has been revealed about the game but it does pick up after the events of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard as players will play as Ethan who is living happily with Mia, his wife who was missing in Biohazard. Ethan’s world comes crashing down after Chris Redfield makes an appearance in their lives again, setting off chain of events that makes Ethan go looking for answers, ultimately leading him to a mysterious village. Resident Evil Village brings back the first-person perspective following the traditional third-person perspective than was seen in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Capcom is also teasing something new as players can have the opportunity to partake in a closed beta test celebrating the 25th anniversary. More details on the game will be revealed during the showcase.
The Resident Evil franchise saw a renaissance when Resident Evil Biohazard was released. The following two games, the remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 were also very well received. Last year, Capcom revealed that the franchise has sold over 100 million units. This year is also milestone for the franchise as 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the original game. Resident Evil Village isn’t the only thing in the works for the franchise There are two tv series coming to Netflix, an animated series and a live-action show; plus there is a new movie reboot that follows the game’s story, unlike the previous Resident Evil films that have come before.
