Many popular game receive updates following their release, typically adding additional features or content to be completed within the main story. The incredibly successful Resident Evil Requiem has taken its latest free update in a different direction with the introduction of the newest game mode available after story completion. In “Leon Must Die Forever”, the core gameplay of Resident Evil Requiem is given a new twist as players guide Leon Kennedy through a timed series of challenges explicitly designed to kill him.
The new trailer on the Resident Evil YouTube page along with recent posts on the official website explain the new game mode in detail. Throughout the trailer, Leon Kennedy can be seen fighting through waves of zombies using a variety of tools from the main game. In order to progress, players will need to make their way through stages unique to the mode within the given time limit. Each stage will grow more difficult to complete, encouraging players to begin by trying to reach as far into the game mode as possible.
The heart of the minigame mode is in its difficulty. “Leon Must Die Forever” features a new extreme difficulty mode in which players will need to make full use of the new enhancer abilities to get Leon through. Despite the name, there is an end to the mode, with players engaging a final boss at the end of the last stage. Even afterwards, however, players are encouraged to replay the mode to make use of the different options it grants.
Updates are a common place to see massive jumps in difficulty, especially those that are only available after completing the main story. Even experienced players will be able to challenge themselves within the new minigame. “Leon Must Die Forever” is a free update available to all versions of Resident Evil Requiem.
