Resident Evil 7’s PC demo was just recently released, which could only mean one thing: data miners, using a hex editor, cracked that thing open for all the wonderful full game spoilers they could find, and there was plenty to be found. These leaks have made their way across the internet, mainly through Reddit and NeoGAF, and they are extremely detailed. So far, Capcom hasn’t commented on the authenticity of these leaks, probably so they can keep the details of their upcoming game a secret for fans. There won’t be any plot spoilers in this article, but there will be a detailed list on weapons players can use as well as the contents of upcoming DLC.
Players can stab and cut enemies using scissors, a knife, and a chainsaw. As for firearms, there is a shotgun, handgun and even a grenade launcher. There are several other, more unconventional weapons as well, including a burner, candle, lighter, and time bomb, as well as other items labeled “liquid bomb,” “stimulant,” and “serum.”
While it is possible that some of these items were just used for testing purposes and might not actually appear in the finished game, this weapons list does match information given by the ESRB’s rating for the game. In the ESRB’s rating summary, they mention that players can use “pistols, shotguns, flamethrowers, explosives and chainsaws to kill mutant creatures.” The summary goes into further detail on the violent events within the game:
A character’s arm dismembered by a chainsaw; a man’s leg taken off at the knee with a shovel; a character impaled through the face with a shovel.
Those are some pretty violent cut scenes.
The leaks also include details on the first four upcoming DLC packs. The first DLC pack is puzzle-focused chapter in which players will answer riddles and solve other types of puzzles. The second DLC chapter will feature some sort of card game. The details aren’t very specific, but it will feature mechanics like bluffing, as well as in-game droppable rewards based on players’ performance. The third DLC pack will be a wave-based survival mode. It seems it will have multiple stages, with ten waves for each map. The fourth DLC pack will be a miniature story chapter in which players take the role of Lucas (the character who gets his arm cut in the story trailer). It seems that this chapter will have three endings, with the ending being based off the player’s actions.
There are many other spoilers throughout the internet, including story spoilers as well as details on the final boss. Readers who want to spoiled are more than welcome to check out these threads. Everyone else can wait until the Resident Evil 7’s release date on January 24th for PC, PS4, PlayStation VR and Xbox One.
