Without a doubt, one of the most anticipated titles of 2023 was the remake of Resident Evil 4. Capcom’s title launched just last week on Thursday, March 23 and immediately garnered plethora of critical acclaim across both the industry and the video game community. Capcom’s third remaster entry is already being considered one of the best releases of 2023, and this new tidbit of information is only evident of that. The company has revealed that the remake of Resident Evil 4 has sold more than three million copies in less than two days since it launched, an insane amount of units in such a short time and an unbelievable achievement for the franchise.
In addition, Capcom also revealed that over all cumulative shipments for the entire franchise has now exceeded 135 million units shipped since the very first Resident Evil launched in 1996. In the press release it states that the franchise has become more than just a staple in the video game industry, it’s officially Capcom’s star series, “Now, more than 27 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe makes it Capcom’s flagship game series.”
To show just how much of a perspective this is, Capcom’s other two remake titles, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, cross the three million threshold in less than week and five days each respectively. Resident Evil 4 has now trounced that statistic in less than 48 hours, which is absolutely mindboggling. We still have the rest of 2023 to go through, and there is almost no doubt that those sales numbers will increase exponentially before the year is done with. The title is also slated to recieve the very popular Mercenaries mode as a free update next month, which will only bring newer players into the Resident Evil player base.
Resident Evil 4 is available now for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/Series S, and PC.
