Square Enix Announces Live A Live Port For PlayStation and PC

A classic story is coming back to be told once again. Live A Live is a 2D turn based Japanese role playing game that was initially released back in 1994. This game did not have a western release and remained a Japan exclusive game, until last year. Square Enix published a 2D HD remaster of the game for the Nintendo Switch. And now, Square Enix announced that Live A Live will be coming to PlayStation and PC.

It’s been 28 years since Live A Live was released. With the rise of new creation tools, Unreal Engine 4 was used to remake the game. While the original work was done in pixel art, the use of Unreal Engine 4 will bring out modern-day high definition graphics while still keeping the pixel art feeling of the game, keeping the nostalgia of the RPG element. The soundtrack also received a rework. Yoko Shimomura is the original composter for the game. She is known for making the music of Kingdom Hearts and Mario & Luigi series. Under her supervision, the soundtrack was remastered, ensuring its authenticity remained while the game underwent its remake. With all these new upgrades, a classic tale is told once again.

Live A Live’s story is told in eight different chapters and eight different characters that range through different time periods such as prehistory, the wild west, imperial China and the future. Some of these time periods span from the past, wild west, and the future. These chapters will have different gameplay mechanics that differ from one another but will all return the turn base combat system. Players will have the option to either start and finish one story at a time or play through each story simultaneously and get into the chapters little by little. In the end, once all the chapters are complete, a final chapter will be available, and all the stories come together into one final point in the game that will wrap up the game’s story.

A demo is available to play on Steam and PlayStation store. Live A Live is available for the Nintendo Switch and will be coming to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC Via Steam April 27, 2023.
