Resident Evil 4: Remake Hits 5 Million in Sales, A Record For The Series

The Resident Evil 4 Remake hits a new milestone for the Resident Evil series.

This news comes from VGC on Twitter, announcing Thursday that the Resident Evil 4 Remake has sold over 5 million copies, which is milestone for the series since 2009.  Capcom JP also annoucned this on their Japanese website, stating, “…Resident Evil 4 grew following a highly positive reception from customers as well as with the release of The Mercenaries, free additional downloadable content, driving worldwide sales over 5 million units.”  The 2005 title remake released back in March 24,2023, just shy of six months.  Capcom also announced that the game sales for the entire series exceedes over 142 million copies sold since 1996, marking Resident Evil  as Capcom’s flagship title.

This is not the only milestone that Resident Evil 4 Remake has broken.  Whne it first released, the game sold three million copies in 48 hours, and 4 million copies in its first two weeks.  The only other Resident Evil games to make such feats were the other remake titles of the series, Resident Evil 2, which crossed three million in a week and Resident Evil 3 in five days.

On Thursday, Capcom announced that they’re working to implement a VR mode or version of Resident Evil 4 Remake, saying on thier website, “Further, Capcom looks to continue expanding sales with the upcoming release of Resident Evil 4 VR Mode, free downloadable content compatible with PlayStation®VR2.”   This isn’t the only thing that might be in the pipeline though.  According to VGC, following the game’s release, “…datamainers claimed to have uncovered references to “The Another Order” (the Japanese name for Separate Ways) in the game files.” This content was available as DLC (Downloadable Content) for other versions of the original RE:4 but was excluded on the GameCube initial release, where you play as Ada Wong and focus on her perspective of the game.

Hopefully, the release of the VR mode or upcoming DLC content will boost sales even further.  For now, you can buy Resident Evil 4 Remake now on Xbox Series consoles, PlayStation 4 and 5, and PC.
