Resident Evil 3 Remake “More Action-Packed” than RE2

According to a report from USGamer this week, fan with Japanese and English literacy shared their translation of a recent Famitsu interview with Resident Evil 3 Remake producers Peter Fabiano and Masachika Kawata. The Twitter user’s seven-part thread shares some translated information on what can be expected in the upcoming remake of the PlayStation One-era survival horror classic.

The Division 1 development team at Capcom suggested that Resident Evil 3 could be remade, dependent on the success of Resident Evil 2 Remake, which released at the beginning of 2019. The game has gone on to sell over five million copies and earned several nominations for Game of The Year, leading fans to feel like remake of Resident Evil 3 was all but guaranteed. After teases and hints Capcom revealed Project Resistance to some confusion, but after some key art leaked Capcom officially revealed Resident Evil 3 Remake during Sony’s recent State of Play and explained that Project Resistance is an included “asymmetrical co-op” multiplayer mode.

According to the Famitsu interview, the latest Resident Evil remake from Capcom was codenamed “Escape” during development and is nearly complete. The updated game will be different from the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis and deviate a bit from Resident Evil 2 Remake as well. According to the fan-provided translation, the structure of Resident Evil 3 Remake will have variations “so that those familiar with the original could also enjoy it.” The new version of the game will share its over-the-shoulder perspective with Resident Evil 2 Remake, and Jill’s memorable tube top and miniskirt outfit has been changed to something that “wouldn’t look uncomfortable” during the “action-packed” game–as seen in the State of Play trailer, Resident Evil 3 Remake will also include the addition of a dodge mechanic for evading zombies and other enemies.

Jill’s traditional look will still be available for those who pre-order Resident Evil 3 Remake as part of a “Classic Costume Pack.”

One of the most significant changes in Resident Evil 3 Remake are revisions on the characters and their roles in the game’s story. Along with updated looks, characters like S.T.A.R.S. member Brad Vickers are suggested to have more meaningful roles. Since Brad Vickers dies in the original Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, it remains to be seen what lies in store for him this time around. Carlos Oliviera will also see changes to his role in the plot in the updated version of the game, hopefully in equal measure to his new mop of hair. The producers agreed that they aren’t ready to share (or spoil) and specifics about the changes to the structure of the game’s plot.

According to the translation, producers Kawata and Fabiano also shared that Resident Evil 3 Remake is “90% ready” and that there is no major concern that the game will see delays to its release schedule. Jill Valentine’s trek through Raccoon City with Nemesis in Resident Evil 3 Remake will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam in April 2020.

Angel Tuohy: I'm a fan of a lot of different games in different genres, and my favorites are Dark Souls, Final Fantasy, Street Fighter, Tekken, Persona, Resident Evil, and NieR. I think games are a brilliant way to tell a story, but it's important to me that the game is fun to play too. I've recently received my Master's degree in Literature.
