Resident Evil 2 Remake Reveals a Live-Action Trailer, Paying Homage to the Original 1998 Game Trailer

With the release date of Resident Evil 2 Remake just a few hours away, the hype has begun. With reveals of cosmetics, different modes, gameplay trailers, live-streams, demos, the hype list just keeps going. The launch trailer dropped yesterday, showing off the night of terror and what’s to come for our two protagonists, Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy. But Capcom didn’t think that that was enough to fill the one day void between launch trailer day and launch day.

So they went forward to recreate the original trailer for Resident Evil 2 for when it came out back in 1998:

And for comparison, the one from 1998. Though this one ends up continuing to show off gameplay.

Though a little different and missing some of Leon’s quips, the trailer is still reminiscent of the first scene of the original Resident Evil 2, and shows how Leon and Claire end up being paired together for some time during the night. Friendship shows itself in many different ways.

Although, having watched the two trailers, new and original, and gone through some of the comments, we noticed a name had popped up several times: George A. Romero. George A. Romero was a filmmaker best known for Night of the Living Dead (how fitting) and is considered the father of the modern zombie genre. Back in 1998, he had produced a live-action trailer for Resident Evil 2 that might look similar:

A little more extreme 90’s and In-Your-Face like the original Resident Evil 2 trailer was versus the slightly slower build-up of the remake, but the similarities still stand. After all, it is all the same game. And whether or not the 2019 live-action trailer is mostly just focusing on the 1998 game trailer or the 1998 live-action trailer, there’s really no concrete answer. However, the feel and atmosphere is still there with what’s to come.

The wait is in its final countdown as Resident Evil 2 Remake comes out tomorrow, January 25, 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
