Resident Evil 2 Remake Has Now Sold More Than 10 Million Units

Another day, another major milestone for Capcom. This time it has to do with one of their most critically acclaimed titles, the remake of Resident Evil 2. The company has announced that the title has now sold more than 10 million units world wide since it initially launched in early 2019. This new jump in the statistics is more than likely due to the game being re-released for the newest generation of consoles just last month, the PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/Series S. This makes the already highly successful entry even more of a hit for Capcom, making it one of the highest selling entries in the series.

To give this some more perspective, the original Resident Evil 2, which launched in 1998, sold more than 4.96 million copies in its entire lifetime. The remake sold more than 5 million in the span of less than 12 months, easily crushing the original’s numbers in the process. The remake currently sitting at the number 2 spot on the list of highest selling Resident Evil titles, usurping Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 a while back. The current king on this list is Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, which is only holding that spot at 10.6 million units, barely above the remake.

If the numbers for the remake of Resident Evil 2 continue as they have, then it’s only a matter of time before it completely overtakes Resident Evil 7: Biohazard and becomes the highest selling entry in the entire franchise. As we already mentioned, the remake of Resident Evil 2 has been widely acclaimed and is also considered by some in the fanbase to be the best entry in the entire series. The remake was one of the best titles in 2019, and was nominated for a plethora of awards, which culminated when it won the Ultimate Game of the Year Award at the Golden Joysticks 2019.
