One of the most underrated games to be released in the past few years has definitely got to be Remedy Entertainment’s Control, an action adventure game with a very fascinating world and tone that really hearkened to Remedy Entertainment’s old Alan Wake game. While Control went a bit under the radar upon release, and many of the people who enjoyed it have moved the conversation from Control to Alan Wake’s highly acclaimed sequel Alan Wake 2, but the needle may be moving back in the other direction as it’s come to light that Remedy Entertainment has acquired the rights to the Control IP from 505 Games.
Remedy now enjoy complete creative freedom over the future of the Control IP, and can do with the property what they see fit. In good news for fans of Control, and fans of Remedy’s style of atmosphere and narrative in general, this also likely means that Remedy Entertainment has a Control sequel in the works, and with many unanswered questions and mysteries in the Control universe and a fanbase hungry for more games like it that’s definitely good news.
As pointed out in the comments of the above tweet, this isn’t the first major IP acquisition by a developer from the publishing studio, just earlier this year From Software purchased the Elden Ring IP from Bandai Namco in a huge move for the studio, and it looks like Remedy Entertainment is following suit. Who knows how many developers will do the same in the future, as big as these two examples are they aren’t indicative of a major industry trend quite yet.
But at the end of the day, the real news is that this is almost a 100% confirmation of more Control content, which I’m sure many people will be happy to hear about, and one that’s entirely under the creative vision of the developer.
