Rainbow Six Siege’s New Event “Showdown” Ain’t No Hootenanny and is Currently Live

There comes a time when there are the little things in life that bring joy. A favourite food, a favourite color, seeing period actors in full costume holding modern applications like laptops, cellphones, and Nintendo DS’s. Oddly specific? That’s sort of the start when it comes to the hyped event for Rainbow Six Siege that dropped today. Taking all of these high-tech characters with fancy gadgets, unique skills, and clearly modern armor and uniforms, and putting them smack dab into the 1880’s wild west.

The new Rainbow Six Siege event, known as “Showdown”, is a unique 3v3 battle that allows players to only choose from a set amount of characters for one of the two sides. On the first side, The Law, players can choose from Maverick, Ash, Twitch, Capitao, and Glaz. On the opposing side, the Graveltop Gang, players can choose from Alibi, Kaid, Caveira, Maestro, and Rook.

But, it won’t be all as high tech of a setup in this rootin’ tootin’ fight. In this mode, there are only two guns available: the BOSG.12.2 and the Magnum LFP586. This allows the fight to be fair in this set up. But it goes beyond just allowing only the two guns, but in fact turns the whole UI into something that’s no longer high-tech. Well, more of a realistic approach as the UI completely strips players of any visuals informing them of their health, ammo, and crosshair. Limite UI, fancy old guns, all to allow the characters to look more accurate to their new surroundings.

Of which, said surroundings is Fort Truth. Fort Truth is the brand new 3v3 map made specifically for this event only, so don’t expect to see it in the normal map rotation. This map is based around the story of The Law versus The Graveltop Gang as Fort Truth has a massive mountain of loot and gold ripe for the taking. But it’s clear it won’t be given up without a fight.

Through the event, there are 31 exclusive obtainable items that can be showcased by the playable event characters, as well as the unique weapon skins that bring back times of tumbleweeds and spurs. These items can be obtained through Showdown packs that can be earned or purchased.

Rainbow Six Siege’s Showdown Event is currently live and runs until July 16. More information on the event over on the blog post on their website here.
